If like me, you run a lot or are training for a marathon, a massage gun can be a great investment.  It can help relieve muscle stiffness and soreness after those long or fast runs.  Massage guns work by applying rapid, targeted pulses of pressure to specific areas of the body, which can help increase blood flow and oxygen to the muscles, aiding in recovery.

They can help runners release tension and improve their mobility by massaging the quads, hamstrings, and glutes.

My training plan for my next marathon is well underway. With the big miles approaching, recovery plays an increasingly important role in training. With fatigue and achy legs kicking in, I was delighted to be sent the Bob and Brad Q2 mini massage gun to try.

Your pocket-sized partner

This is the number one best-selling mini massage gun on Amazon! Designed for quick relief on the go, this massage gun is perfect for warming up, pain relief, and recovery routines. With its latest noise reduction technology, it promises to be so discreet, you can hardly hear it. So let’s try it out.

First impressions:

Things didn’t get off to a great start. There is no plug adapter included so that is something to bear in mind. Luckily, it is charged via a USBC cable – so once I’d found an adapter to charge it we were good to go! Once charged it will last around three hours.

One of the biggest benefits of this is the size – this thing fits in the palm of your hand. It’s very easy to use, with a simple on/off button. There are multiple speed settings to choose from so you can customise the intensity of the massage
It comes with 5 different massage heads, each designed to target specific areas of the body. The heads fit in and out very easily and quickly.

What are the different heads used for:

  • The big round head is designed to target larger muscle groups like the glutes, quadriceps, and hamstrings.

  • The air-filled pneumatic head is the softest attachment. Due to the air in the middle, this attachment has a bit of give. Ideal for sensitive muscle groups and for reducing stress!

  • The bullet head is designed to target problems in joints, palms, and soles like the plantar fascia. It’s also great for deep tissue impact, making it a great option for relieving knots in the upper back.

  • The plastic flat head is a moderate-intensity attachment, suited to all parts of the body, particularly areas like the IT band.

  • The U-shaped head is perfect for the Achilles Tendon area and the spine. It offers medium intensity but its design wraps around the tendon rather than giving direct impact.

Its high-intensity vibrations penetrate deep into the muscle tissue, helping to relieve knots and stiffness. I suffer from tight quads and I’ve found the ball head to be effective for those.

Positives:

  • The massage gun is incredibly effective at targeting sore muscles and reducing muscle tension.
  • Compact yet powerful
  • Silicone handle for easy grip.
  • Easy-to-use controls
  • The gun is relatively lightweight and easy to use in hard-to-reach spots without needing help.
  • Impressive battery life – I can use the gun for several days without needing to recharge it.

Overall, I highly recommend the Brad and Bobs massage gun to anyone looking for a powerful and effective way to ease muscle tension and soreness. Despite being so small, it’s very powerful. I can confidently say that it’s been a game-changer for my muscle recovery routine.
