The clocks have changed, it’s officially Autumn, time to dig out the winter running wear and the hi-vis. It’s important to stay safe and visible when running at night – see this post for tips on staying safe in the dark.

I live in a rural area, my street has no streetlights. (I’m still using this as the excuse for reversing my car into my house). This is where the Unilite SPORT-H1 comes in really useful. I’ve put it through its paces on my evening runs this week.

Firstly – look at it, it’s PINK!!!
It’s really easy to work, just pop in an AA battery, press the button to choose your setting and off you go. There are 4 white LED settings, high, mid, low and SOS and two red LED settings; red and red flash. Once you are finished a press of the button switches it off, there no flicking through all the settings until it turns off.

It produces 175 lumens on the highest setting, which means, for once, I can actually see my way to the street-lit area of my route. It has a beam range of 70 metres and the torch can be tilted up to 45° so you can direct the light where you need and it.

It’s lightweight, you can barely feel it’s there and there are rubber grippy things (that’s a technical term, I promise) on the adjustable strap so it doesn’t slip whilst you are running. It is water resistant to IPX6 standard but I haven’t been out in the rain with it yet. On the brightest setting, it has a run time of 5.5 hours – which should see me through a good few weeks of running.

If you are looking for a headtorch I’d definitely recommend this one. It’s easy to use, looks good and has provided me with that extra bit of visibility on an evening.

If you’re not a fan of pink it also comes in green, blue and yellow
