Sightseeing, strudels, and a 10k run for good measure – what more could a girl want? Passport in hand, viral Ryanair cabin bag packed – let’s go!

Vienna is a beautiful city, from the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace to St Stephen’s Cathedral, but I was heading there the ASICS Austrian Women’s Run! This year was a special one as it was celebrating its 35th anniversary.

The motto for the race was “kind of magic” and it truly was!

First stop bib collection – this is done the day before the race – get there early as the queues were lengthy.

The event expo was like a mini-festival and had everything you could possibly need – which is great if you had forgotten to pack anything!

Numerous stands offered free samples and chances to win various fitness-related items, while the ASICS stand allowed you to try / buy a new pair of running shoes.

The village was buzzing with activity, and a central stage had live workouts.

Race bib and huge goodie bag collected I had just enough time for a quick explore of the city before race day.

It’s a kinda magic

Race morning brought together over 20,000 women of all ages, backgrounds, and running abilities.

It transformed the green Vienna Prater into a place teeming with empowerment, fun, and emotion.

I made my way to the starting area, ready to tackle the 10km course.

The tree-lined park provided a stunning race backdrop as well as some welcome shade in the heat.

Sadly, the route doesn’t take in the city centre itself – but you do get to run through the park’s iconic amusement park – which really puts Hull Fair to shame!

It was an event for all abilities with two run distances on offer – 5km or 10km (or the option to do both) there was also the option of a 5k Nordic walk.

Both courses are super flat, the 5k course is ideal for beginners as there is no time limit.

The 10 km route is one of the fastest in Austria – making this a great race if you are wanting to smash that PB.

Female Empowerment

The atmosphere was electric. Running alongside so many other women was empowering.

Having listened to a talk the evening prior I was very aware of the barriers women can face when it comes to exercise.

But here I was, surrounded by thousands of women all here for this event!  Everywhere you turned, there was a sense of camaraderie and support.

The spirit of empowerment was contagious – an affirmation that when women support each other, incredible things can happen!

Race to the finish:

As an added bonus, this event provided the opportunity to catch up with members of the ASICS Frontrunner team from across the globe.

It was great to spend time with these incredible and inspiring women, making it a truly memorable experience.

I wasn’t out for a goal time, I was just there to enjoy myself. It was lovely to bump into Katja just before 8km and we ran the remainder together – embodying the true meaning behind the event!

Huge cheers as we crossed the line – what a great event!

The ASICS Women’s 10km Run in Vienna is a remarkable event that really encapsulates the spirit of empowerment along with the chance to connect with a huge and diverse community of women.

Add this race to your list, and unleash your inner strength in an unforgettable event in the heart of Vienna.
