parkrun

I love parkrun, it was the first real group run I ever did. It took me about 38 minutes to get round and I came 2nd to last. OK, technically last as the back marker kindly let me finish ahead of him.

We popped down to the York one last saturday in our fitmums tops to hand out leaflets and create a bit of awareness for next weeks launch. It was a fantastic turn out with around 450 runners. I ran most of it with Andy, the 30 minute pacer, who was spot on with his timings!

So, what actually is parkrun?
It’s a timed 5km run, every Saturday morning at 9am. They are held all over the country and run by volunteers. It’s fantastic for beginners or people wanting to get back into running and it is free to join. All you need to do is register online and download your unique barcode.

It’s a very friendly event and you can run at your own pace – there is no pressure. As you cross the finish line you are given a token which is scanned along with your barcode then you receive your finish time and position by text in a few hours.

The one in York even has a coffee van at the finish – perfect for that post run caffeine fix.

I would highly recommend it, if I lived closer I would be there every week – however I still get overtaken by men pushing their kids in buggies (where is that crying face emoji when I need it)!
